Walmart Blah!

When I moved to Texas I thought only "rich people" shopped at Kroger, HEB, Randalls, and us po' folks on students budgets shopped at mostly Walmart. Walmart in Utah seemed very okay, though the produce wasn't great, but it was clean and not scary.

Here in Texas I am learning it a different story, and slowly...I have been changing my ways, due to the iffy things going on. Today was one such experience. My outing today included stops at Walmart, Autozone, Library, and Randalls.

Walmart is great for things like tupperware, office supplies, diapers, batteries, and even sometimes fabric. In the food department I really like the price matching. I can rely on the canned goods, marshmellows, and pillsbury products (which are insanely cheap). Produce still struggles, but I have always thought the meat looked clean and didn't smell....that is until today.

I picked up a family size pack of drumsticks to price match against my Food-a-rama ad. And something smelled nasty. I put it back and now smelled my hand which smelled VOMIT NASTY.
.
Now, being the microbiologist that I am I will tell you I have smelled VERY nasty things and can identify most of them ( at least roughly). Now my stomach can handle a lot of smells do the nature of my former line of work and current line of work (diaper duty), but this was BEYOND NASTY. Not to mention that it could have POTENTIALLY BEEN SOMEONE'S FOOD!
Most chicken has bacteria, but not bacteria cultured (hence the smelliness) on the OUTSIDE of the package. This i what I'm guessing it was. I am also guessing that this particular chicken didn't reach the refrigerator or freezer in the Walmart store quite as quickly as it should have....
...
.....I swiftly made my way to front of the store and to the ladies room for a thorough bath ....with child in tote.

No more meat from Walmart....
